Meet Dr. James Donaghey
Dr. James Donaghey has dedicated his career to creating healthy, confident smiles through expert orthodontic care. With decades of experience and a passion for serving his community, he continues to provide personalized, high-quality treatment to patients of all ages.
After over 40 years of serving this community, Dr. Donaghey is proud to pass ownership of his practice to his friend and colleague, Dr. Steven Oliver. While moving into a more relaxed schedule, Dr. Donaghey will continue seeing patients and remain an active part of the practice.

Education & Experience
Dr. Donaghey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University before earning his dental degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. He then completed his specialty training in orthodontics at St. Louis University, where he received a Master of Science in Dentistry and was recognized as an outstanding orthodontic resident with the J.P. Marshall Award.
Active Leadership in Orthodontics
Dr. Donaghey is an active member of several professional organizations dedicated to advancing orthodontic care, including:
- Alabama Association of Orthodontists (former President)
- Alabama Dental Association
- American Association of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- Mobile Area Dental Society (former President)
- Southern Association of Orthodontists (former Board of Directors, current Delegate to the AAO)
Community Involvement
Dr. Donaghey has been an active leader in the Mobile community, dedicating his time and expertise to various organizations:
- Served as President of both the Mobile Area Dental Society and the Alabama Association of Orthodontists.
- Board Member of the Southern Association of Orthodontists and Delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists.
- Served on the School Board and Parish Council at Corpus Christi Parish in Mobile.
- Contributed over 25 years to the Catholic Charities Annual Fund Drive, including serving as Archdiocesan Chairman in 2005.
- Member of the McGill-Toolen Catholic High School Hall of Fame and the DuBourg Society of Saint Louis University.
Family & Personal Life
Dr. Donaghey and his wife, Joanne, cherish time with their family, which includes four children and seven grandchildren. When he’s not perfecting smiles, he enjoys staying involved in his local community and spending time with loved ones.
